As we all know, no one actually pays for music anymore. Therefore the music industry is doing some serious revamping and this is actually going to be a good good thing!!
"The new marketplace isn't being built for the 10-million selling act. It'll be about building a foundation for artists that sell less than 100,000 albums"
Record companies are being forced to go after initial sales to stay above water because after a few purchases here or there, music hits the main vein and is free to everyone (generally speaking).
Which means!! Maybe this is the end of the Pop era, maybe the world is about to be doused in a subculural overflow.
