lyrics.

Back at the home base starbucks of the slightly slow augusta georgia.

Man. I've missed driving like that. I do long for another season in my life where that sort of thing happens more often.

I've realized I'm at a real unique time in life where my community and friendships are more important than this longing to go. I know that one day that will change, so I can tell that rambling spirit to be patient and enjoy all of this beauty. All of these wonderful friends that continue to bless me with their words and souls. No doubt they teach me so much. No doubt we will come back to this time again. We were made to be together.

I love driving. I love the long long thoughts I'm allowed to weave in and out of throughout that long stretch of I-20. I like feeling different, and I kind of like being alone.

I was going to listen to some new This American Life but instead I decided on good old....yep....Josh Ritter. I know. But it was raining like a gigantic waterfall and the lightening made me nervous to wear headphones, so I went with old Josh Ritter.

I will say, again, that I love him. And it's fascinating. It's fascinating what effect a lyric or verse or even a little lull can do to your soul. For example. I started off with Monster Ballads. "Radio waves coming miles and miles, bringing only empty boats. Whatever feeling they had when they sailed, some house the doubt between the notes. Out on the desert now and feeling lost. The bonnet wears a wire albatross. Monster Ballads or the stations of the cross, sighing just a little bit." It feels like a hymn, or a psalm. I'm telling you, it's a strange thing...music. How it affects us, how I just wish we could take that peace, that piece, that little truth with me. And know that if I gave it to someone else, that they'd feel it too.

That part about me and Jim passing Cairo on a getaway. It's the most beautiful picture of love.

And the still small voice comes in blazing from some vast horizon. You see...I don't know to what benefit these things are...but I know they stick.

And Change of Time.

And Good Man.

And Girl in the War.

And Temptation of Adam.

And of course, Thin Blue Flame. That one is one of the most beautifully written things as well. It holds the heart of a lot of humanity, I think.

I would take them apart lyrically, but I don't think that's fair. I think they are all a part of a whole piece, and it's best if you just listen to them after a long day of work with a cup of tea and the lights turned off, windows open, eyes closed. That's the ticket.

So. That. This is a strange thing, music. I feel like everyone loves different kinds of music. But if we could share somehow....why and how something so beautiful resounds in us the way it does, that would be nice. We'll figure these things out.

The same goes with Bon Iver. I just bought the album too. I was giddy and the girl at the counter didn't understand. I told her she would one day.

But. That's all I've got. I don't really know.
