And afterwards. Afterwards, kids were in the back parking lot of Adams stadium standing all alone at redneck Kent's truck waiting for us, asking "What is this? How can we join?"
And this one supppper trendy senior, Donovan, said "You better be back here next week."
And we all smiled, knowing he could be the next cool kid that gets everyone to club.
And for some reason, I'm terrified. What are we doing? What if we mess up? How can we love kids?
I guess that's me taking my eyes off of Jesus and looking at the waves around us as we sail into the heavily patroled halls of Tucker high.
More amazing things about yesterday, we climbed to the top of Adams after the game and met Coach Jackson, the principle, and shook his hand. He introduced himself as James.
Mrs. Beck, the only lady who was on committee from Tucker (but quit because she said Tucker leaders were too flakey) invited to have us over for leader meetings. Now we have two places to have our bimonthly leader meetings. Thanks God.
Herani, a senior who always wants to help, told me she loved excel and said she'd help me organize Tucker information.
Every single freshmen girl we know walked up to us afterwards and hugged us before they left. And. Their parents were at the game. And they weren't the divorced atheists parents who cheat on each other or beat each other or lie to their kids. Not too an awful extent at least. We'll count it as a light. Support.
Oh. And at one point, whilst standing among the kids, someone came over and put their arm around me in a sidehug kind of way. Oh. Hey Troy. He smiled and said, "Game of the week! Gotta be here!" We then proceeded to peruse around the stands. And then he went off to introduce himself to parents.
Jori came down to where I was standing with sophomores and brought her friends and we talked for a good twenty minutes. She is so cool. And her friends pointed out all of their best friends they knew on the cheerleading team. Kids are everywhere. They keep showing up.
And their wayyy cooler than those private school kids. "God loves me for free" said the sophomore girls shirts. Awesome.
And then. Kevin Katie Kent and myself met my friend Josh at Brickstore and we talked and laughed til late late late. We even shared our hearts a little. This is real life. And it was so good.
It's crazy. And I'm terrified and uncomfortable.
